The Lafayette Mighty Lions hosted the Opelousas Tigers in a Tuesday night basketball match-up. Despite jumping out to a 7-0 lead, the Lions lost their poise and struggled the rest of the quarter. Turnovers and missed shots plagued the Lions, and as a result the Tigers carried a 20-12 lead into the second quarter. The second period proved to be a defensive one, as Opelousas only scored one point and Lafayette seven six minutes into the quarter. The Lions proceeded to score seven more en route to a five point halftime lead. Lafayette got on the board first in the second half, and Opelousas’ deficit remained small but present. A two point lead with more than half of the third quarter elapsed noticeably heightened the Lions’ intensity. Confidence and an six point advantage continued for the Lions in the fourth quarter and the Tigers were simply unable to shorten the lead for extended periods of time. The shots just could not fall for Opelousas, allowing the Lafayette Mighty Lions to secure the win at home 66-55.
