In front of a packed Friday night crowd, the Northside Vikings faced off with the STM Cougars at the Cougar Dome. The game began at a fast pace, but the score was relatively low for the speed at which they raced — 9-9. Northside only needed ten seconds into the second quarter to sink a three, and in the next two minutes STM attacked back from behind the arc. Offensive rebounds allowed the Cougars to maintain possession, but the numerous missed opportunities kept them from scoring on most drives. The Vikings stayed strong until halftime and held onto their lead 21-17. The intensity of the second half decreased greatly, but Northside was still able to keep the lead and the defense strengths. Evan Tatford (5) came up big for the Cougars as he posed in a big threat under the basket. Despite being down for a majority of the game, STM tied it in the last seconds of the third quarter, but Northside stole the ball and their thunder as a breakaway lay-up put the Vikings up in the last second. A 28-26 score began the the final quarter and it remained that way until 1:15 left in the game due to mindless dribbling in order to run down the clock. Neither team pressured the other until the other made a move, making for a very dull few minutes of basketball. With 43.2 seconds left, the Vikings held a tight 28-27 lead. Many close calls for the Cougars, but they could not get any of their desperation shots to fall. Vikings win 29-27.
