Both teams starting in a full court press, tensions began with the buzzer. North Vermillion’s Chelcie Sonnier (12) would be first to find the middle and attack from the wing, putting up 6 of the Patriots 11 in the first quarter. Erath’s Megan Norris (34) and Alexis Harrington (14) worked together from the wing to low post to keep Erath competitive, gaining the only Lady Bobcat lead at the end of the first quarter, 12-11.

North Vermillion regained the lead in the second quarter by winning rebounding battles and remaining consistent at the line. Kate Faulk (11) was a powerful presence in the paint despite her position at the top of the key. Funneling the ball from the wings to low post, relying on athleticism, North Vermillion effectively allowed the girls to win match-ups rather than force plays. The Lady Patriots went into the half up 9, 24-15.

The second half fared similarly to the first. The Lady Patriots man-to-man defense utilized their size advantage over the smaller, scrappy Erath team. Norris (34) and Ashley Dubois (1) took turns running the offense for the Lady Bobcats, but the deficit remained near 10 as Erath fell in the third, 29-21.

North Vermillion’s Hannah Dardar (25) and Morgan Harrington (22) would play larger roles in the latter quarter of the game, both effective from the wing and equally physical on defense. The girls efforts would assure the Lady Patriot lead, as North Vermillion beat the Bobcats, 35-23.
